Abstract Milton Atsushi Murayama was born on April 10, 1923 on Puukolii Plantation near Lahaina, Maui. As a young man, Murayama served as a Japanese translator in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II, and after the war attended the University of Hawaii and Columbia University.
