Container Summary

[Paris] Called on Manuel Komroff (?) in N.Y. before he left, but he wasn’t in. The Downtown Gallery [N.Y.] took his watercolors. Doi’s pal Mr. Sanger wrote to tell him his print “The Bannister” was selected for the “Fifty Prints of the Year” for a March exhibit in N.Y.; the exhibit will travel across the US. Shortly before he left N.Y. he put some prints at the American Institute of Graphic Arts but hasn’t heard from them. He’s “greatly content” with his little studio. Bought a large press for $40; it weighs 400 pounds. Has made two lithographs. Talks about color in his work; warmer colors and less white. He sketches from models at the Academy [sic] de la Grand Chaumiere (?); it costs 3 francs for a stint from 2:00-7:00pm, equivalent to about 12 cents. Women have little lure for him – when they are “so easy to get, one doesn’t want them. What I need is a virgin!” Visited the exhibition of the Independent Artists at the Grand Palais; discusses what he saw.
