Container Summary

[Paris] Met Mrs. Hemingway who was charming. The N.Y.Times had a favorable comment about Doi’s print and the same print was reproduced in the Art Digest. Doi has finished over 20 paintings since he has been in Paris, the majority figures. Hasn’t attempted any prints. Mentions languid summer weather. He has discarded “that Belgian volupte” and hopes to get to work and quit fooling around. Has trouble with his figure paintings, colors are becoming inconsistent and he struggles with landscapes. He reacts against “modern art” and absorbs influence from the old masters. Mrs. Hemingway came to his studio, took keen interest in his prints, but was less interested in his paintings.
