Container Summary
[Paris] Discusses Foujita’s [?] influence on him. He’s painting outdoors, using fresher colors, but there is “something heavy in my heart.” Made his first sale, 350 francs for “The Dawn” print to Charles Child, a Boston artist living in Paris. They met through Mrs. Hemingway. Talks about Paris art scene; independent shows, the buying and selling of art as stocks are bought and sold. Mentions sending a debt collector after David Earl [in Honolulu?] and regrets the trouble this is causing Blake. Feels guilty for sending his prints and drawings to Blake for him to sell for Doi. Confides to Blake about his private life, cautioning that his parents must never know. He fell in love with a “strange little girl, a young Spanish-French mignonne. She’s 4’8”, voluptuous, not beautiful, but pretty, poor with very few clothes. She lives with him for a few days, disappears for a few days without notice, returns without explanation.
