Scope and Contents

The Night Is Young is an unpublished novel set in Hawaii in 1937. The plot follows the life of Gatsby-esque George Kalama and the people who, for better or for worse, fall into his orbit including his childhood friend-turned-bellhop Happy Takeshita and his lover Elsie Smith. This sub-series contains a single manuscript of this work.

CONTENT WARNING: This novel was written in the 1950s and is a product of its time. It contains instances of racist and sexist language, as well as two non-graphic counts of sexual assault. This is a work of fiction and the values and opinions expressed herein do not reflect those of the author. Reader discretion is advised.
