Scope and Contents

This sub-series contains important or significant documents pertaining to important moments in Milton Murayama’s life. There is a folder full of birth, army, marriage, and nationality-related documents including his birth certificate, marriage certificates, and army discharge papers. Another folder contains documents pertaining to Milton’s school achievements including diplomas, transcripts, and commencement programs. A third folder contains documents pertaining to two writers’ conferences Milton attended: The Pacific Northwest Asian American Writer’s Conference in 1976 and Hawai’i’s Ethnic American Writer’s Conference in 1978. A fourth folder contains documents including congratulatory correspondence about Milton’s receipt of the Hawaii Award for Literature in 1991. The fifth folder contains documents pertaining to three other awards Milton received: The VFW Contest in 1941, The American Book Award in 1980, and being named a Library Laureate by the Friends and Foundation of the San Francisco Public Library in 2002 . Finally, there is a folder that contains documents from the U.S. Copyright Office about copywriting his four published novels.

In this sub-series, two files containing certificates and diplomas are grouped together first. The next three files pertain to specific writing awards and honors Murayama won. The final file is full of copyright documents, for which this sub-series is the best fit.
