 File — Box: 1, Folder: 58
Identifier: Manuscript UA00059

Overview

Consists of an article dealing with two concerns: 1) Establishing the Native Hawaiian land rights by examining the nature of the relationship between the people and the land in Hawaiian times (prior to 1778); 2) Determining the extent to which those rights may have been extinguished as a result of the Great Mahele by examining the background and results of events mid-19th century that changed the traditional relationship between the Hawaiian people and their land, with particular emphasis on the Mahele of 1848, and the Kuleana Land Act of 1850. Includes handwritten notes of Marion Kelly.
