Faculty Senate Records (2000-2011)
Scope and Contents
The Faculty Senate Records generally cover the years 2000-2011. Records from Faculty Senate before 2000 are in earlier accessions to the University Archives. Records of other bodies of faculty involved in the governance of the University of Hawai‘i are available in Early Faculty Governance collection. This collection of faculty governance records includes twelve series. The Standing Committees series was divided into a subseries for each committee from years 2000 to 2011.
The first series is All Campus Council of Faculty Senate Chairs (ACCFSC), which provides a formal, independent voice throughout the University of Hawai‘i System. The records in this series related to initiatives by ACCFSC. The dates for this series range from 2004 to 2012. The second series is Bylaws and Charters, which include records related to charters and bylaws by Faculty Senate. Other bylaws and charters are interfiled within other series and ranges from years 2004 to 2007.
The next two series contain minutes, agendas, and other administrative records of Faculty Congress from 1991 to 2008. The Faculty Senate series is derived of minutes and agendas from 2000-2011. It also contains memoranda, supplementary materials, and other administrative records. The next four series: memorandums, policies, proposals, resolutions relate to the governing of faculty senate and other administrative related duties. The years vary but the bulk of materials range from 2000 to 2011. The next series is Senate Executive Committee, which acts on behalf of the Senate and Congress. The bulk of this series consists of minutes and agendas ranging from 2000 to 2011. However, it also contain supplementary materials, memorandums, and other records related to the agenda of meetings.
The series, Standing Committees, is arranged by alphabetically by subseries within each subseries files an organized alphabetically. The first subseries is Committee on Academic Planning and Policy (CAPP) with dates ranging from 2003 to 2011. The second subseries, Committee on Administration and Budget (CAB), which is responsible for reviewing administrative and budget at Mānoa, as well as on the system level with dates ranging from 2005 to 2011. The third subseries, Committee on Athletics (COA), also ranges from 2005 to 2011 and topics include admission standards, academic counselling, ethical standards, and support of student athletes. The fourth subseries, Committee on Faculty Service (CFS), deal with elections for Senate, SEC, and other subcommittees with dates ranging 2000 to 2009. The fifth subseries, Committee on Professional Matters (CPM), deals with protecting academic freedom and other polices regarding ethical matters and classified research. The dates range from years 2003 to 2011. The sixth subseries, Committee on Research (COR), ranges from 2004 to 2011. It is responsible for issues regarding planning, direction, initiation, development and coordination of faculty research. The next subseries, Committee on Student Affairs (CSA), handles student affairs and makes recommendation to the SEC on issues relating to improvement of education and other experiences for students. The materials range from 2005 to 2011. The last subseries, General Education Committee, develops policies and procedures for implementing and monitoring General Education at UHM. The materials in this subseries range from years 2003 to 2011.
The next series, Ad Hoc Committees, Task Forces, Etc., is arranged alphabetically with dates ranging from 2000 to 2011. The last series, Subject Files, contains a range of materials that is also arranged alphabetically. It deals with topics from Western Association of Schools and Colleges, tenure, search committees for administrative positions, and other faculty senate issues that was addressed throughout 2000 to 2011.
