Dole Corporation records
Scope and Contents
The records consist of corporate records from the corporation's founding in 1901 and related subject files, including international activities, files on Lanai pertaining to families and to land and water information dating from 1856, and a series of newsletters. They also contain advertisements and can labels, engineering drawings and materials in audiovisual formats for promotional and training purposes. Please note that the records do not include correspondence of officers before 1967 and after 1975; financial records; records of Wahiawa Plantation, the Molokai venture and the Philippine operations; and payroll and personnel records.

Biographical / Historical
James Drummond Dole established the Hawaiian Pineapple Company in 1901 in Wahiawa, Oahu. In 1911, Henry Ginaca, an employee of the Hawaiian Pineapple Company, invented a processing machine which tripled cannery output. In 1961, the Hawaiian Pineapple Company became Dole Corporation, and in 1970 merged with Castle & Cooke. The firm became known as Dole Foods Corporation until it was renamed the Dole Food Company in 1991.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
These records were given as a gift from the Dole Corporation in 1994. Their donation to the Library was facilitated by archives consultant Peter Smith, whose father once worked for the Dole Corporation, in collaboration with Hawaiian Curator Dr. Chieko Tachihata.
