Biographical / Historical
The Hawaii Literary Arts Council (HLAC) is a non-profit organization founded in 1974. HLAC is largely funded by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. An executive board is elected on a yearly basis. HLAC organizes the Poets-in-the Schools, Poetry on the Bus, and the Poets-in-Residents programs, among many events of readings, lectures and conferences. The Hawaii Award for Literature is awarded annually to an outstanding writer of Hawai'i.
