Biographical / Historical
Founded in 1895, the Hawaiian Sugar Planters' Association (HSPA), dedicated to improving the sugar industry in Hawaiʻi, has become an internationally recognized research center. It was in 1996 when HSPA expanded its research interest besides sugarcane and acquired its current name Hawaiʻi Agriculture Research Center (HARC), expanding its research on tropical agricultural crops and native Hawaiian forestry programs.
