The Mutsuo Hamada Papers contain exclusively military-related materials. The collection is divided into five series: Clippings & Newspapers, Language Training Materials, Memorabilia, Policies & Procedures, and Records.

Material with personal information may be redacted by the Archives staff. Some fragile items may need to be handled by the staff only. Use of audiovisual material may require the production of listening or viewing copies.

Arrangement
The Hamada collection came to the archives as a single stack of papers in a box, without any visible order or intentional arrangement. Therefore artificial series matching the papers origins or subject were created, and the materials were physically grouped together by series and divided into folders. Folders are arranged chronologically.

Physical Description
The collection consists mainly of paper documents in good condition, although some items are affected by yellowing and embrittlement. Also included is an empty leather-bound scrapbook in very good condition. Metal paperclips and staples have been removed and oversized items are stored in a folio flatbox.
