Biographical / Historical
Born in Redlands, California in 1910, self-taught painter Ben Norris’s (1910-2006) career spanned over seven decades. As a child, Norris had a deep fascination with music, which fed his interest in artistic expressions of real life. He even developed an early appreciation for tropical flora while working at a nursery. This fascination turned into academic interest, as Norris entered Pomona College in 1927. He studied Art and Taxonomic Botany and graduated magna cum laude in 1931.
