Biographical / Historical

The Expatraition Petition advocated the idea of a single citizenship and a simplified expatriation process especially for those of Japanese ancestry born on American soil considered by the Japanese government as Japanese citizens based on parents being subjects of Japan. By action of the Government of Japan in 1924, a procedure of expartration from Japanese citizenship has been provided but is complicated and "long waiting" placing Nisei are left in the undeseriable status of dual citizens. Request for the Secretary of State for an arrangement with Japan to provide a more simple procedure of expatriation from the Japanese nationality.
