Gregg M. Sinclair Papers

Gregg M. Sinclair Papers were received by the UH Library over a number of years. The collection reflects his significant roles at the University starting with his employment in 1928 as a member of the English faculty. From 1935-1940 he threw his energy into developing the Oriental Institute, and in 1941 he was made President of the University. He remained in this positon for the next fifteen years retiring in 1956.

Gregg M. Sinclair Papers Biographical Note

For twenty-eight years Gregg Manners Sinclair worked at the University of Hawaii passionately developing his vision to create an intellectual center that drew from both the Eastern and Western scholarship and traditions. In 1928 he was hired as a member of the English Department Faculty, becoming director of the Oriental Institute (1935-1940) and President of the University (1940-1956).
