Claude Takekawa Papers

Abstract Claude Takekawa (1920-2010) was a member of the Varsity Victory Volunteers (VVV), a Japanese American volunteer labor unit that was assigned to the 34th Army Engineers at Schofield Barracks to assist in military construction projects from 1942-1943. Takekawa later volunteered for the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and served in the Military Intelligence Service. Reverend Curtis Metzger served on the Board of Directors of two non-profit organizations advocating for same-sex marriage in Hawai‘i during the mid-to-late 1990s, Marriage Project Hawai‘i (earlier named the Hawai‘i Equal Rights Marriage Project) and Protect Our Constitution. His papers consist of records, emphemera, and artifacts that document these organizations and his involvement with them.
